How to Check Murray County Criminal History
Murray County has no one-stop criminal-history search. The right starting point depends on whether the goal is to confirm a new arrest, read filed charges, find a final disposition, review a Georgia felony conviction, or locate someone in state custody. A name alone may not separate people with similar identities. Gather the full legal name, date of birth when lawfully available, spelling variants, an approximate event year, and any case or report number.
Use each Murray County record source for what it proves. A jail answer describes current or recent custody. A clerk file documents what prosecutors filed and what the court decided. Georgia Felon Search is a narrower statewide conviction product. If those sources differ, the final signed judgment is the key court outcome, while the source agency must correct an inaccurate repository entry.
- Call Murray County Jail for a recent arrest, current charges, release status, or bail information.
- Ask the Murray County Clerk of Superior Court for filed felony charges, docket activity, and the final disposition.
- Check Chatsworth or Eton separately when a city police report, citation, or municipal case is involved.
- Use Georgia Felon Search only for its stated statewide felony-conviction scope.
- Compare the sources and order a certified disposition when formal proof of the court outcome is needed.
Note: A no-result response from one channel does not prove that no arrest, pending case, city matter, or restricted record exists.
Murray County Record Routes
The county’s records are split by both event and custodian. The Murray County Clerk of Superior Court is the felony-record starting point. The sheriff and jail answer custody questions. Municipal courts retain city matters. State systems add felony-conviction, prison, and supervision data, but they do not replace the local source file.
| Question | First channel | What to verify next |
|---|---|---|
| Was there a recent arrest? | Murray County Jail | Arresting-agency report and court filing |
| What was filed or decided? | Clerk of Superior Court | Signed judgment or certified disposition |
| Is there a Georgia felony conviction? | Georgia Felon Search | Identity match and source court |
| Is the person in state prison? | GDC Find an Offender | Sentence docket and current status |
| Is there a city case? | Chatsworth or Eton court | County clerk if felony charges followed |

This office-centered route matters most when a booking allegation has changed after prosecutor review.
Official Georgia Background Checks
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Georgia Crime Information Center maintains the state criminal-history repository. Georgia Felon Search permits a public name-based search for qualifying Georgia felony convictions. It requires a full name, date of birth, sex, and race. The current fee is $15 per transaction, including a “No Record Found” response, and a possible-match record can require another paid selection.
That public result omits misdemeanors, juvenile felony history, and restricted or sealed data. It is not a full arrest history. For one’s own fuller Georgia record, GCIC directs people to a participating sheriff or police agency or its appointment process. Fingerprint-based authorized checks use Georgia Applicant Processing Service through IdentoGO and a purpose-specific service code. An FBI Identity History Summary is a separate subject-only national product with an $18 FBI fee.
The GCIC page shown in the official state source explains how criminal-history data is managed and exchanged.
Its repository role explains why a source-agency correction may be needed when the Murray County court outcome is missing.
Murray Criminal Search Inputs
Georgia Felon Search is useful only when its identity fields and narrow product scope fit the question. Exact data reduces false matches, yet the state notes that fingerprints are needed for exact identity. The portal may return up to five close matches. It should not be read as proof that a person has no other type of record.
| Field | Type | Required | Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| First Name | Text | Yes | Subject identity |
| Last Name | Text | Yes | Legal or known surname |
| Date of Birth | Date/text | Yes | Exact date |
| Sex | Selection | Yes | Portal choice |
| Race | Selection | Yes | Portal choice |
| Search | Button | No | Runs the paid transaction |
Before paying, confirm the live terms and payment screen. A card error or no-result response does not justify switching to an unofficial people-search service.
Types of Murray County Criminal Records
One incident can create several Murray County criminal records. The arresting officer writes an incident or arrest report. The jail creates booking data and fingerprints. A prosecutor may later file an accusation or seek an indictment. The clerk records hearings, pleas, motions, judgments, fines, and sentences. GCIC receives reported arrest and disposition data, while correctional agencies maintain custody and supervision records.
- Arrest and booking records state the intake charge, booking time, bond, holds, and release condition.
- Court case files show filed charges, docket events, disposition, and sentence.
- GCIC entries link identity, reported arrest cycles, court outcomes, and Georgia custody data.
- Warrant records arise in Magistrate, Superior, or municipal court and may have access limits.
- Custody and supervision records distinguish county jail, GDC prison, probation, and parole.
The full Murray County criminal court file is best read separately from the original arrest account. This prevents an intake charge from being mistaken for a conviction.
Murray County Jail Record Check
No reliable official web roster or booking blotter was confirmed for Murray County. The official Sheriff’s Office and jail phone channels are therefore the live local fallback. Call 706-695-4593 to ask whether a person was arrested, what current charges are listed, whether release is by bail, citation, or recognizance, and the bail amount. The Sheriff/Jail number, 706-695-4592 option 2, also routes report-status questions.
The Murray County Detention Center is at 810 1/2 G.I. Maddox Parkway, Chatsworth, GA 30705-1129. Published office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. A defined request works best: give the name, incident date, location, report or case number if known, and whether inspection or an electronic copy is wanted. Current sheriff copy fees were not found in the official sources, so ask for a cost estimate.
The official sheriff source supplied this view of the agency’s public information.
The image reinforces the correct route: use the agency page and published phone lines, not an unsupported commercial jail list.
Note: GDC Find an Offender covers sentenced state custody, while the Murray County jail line covers current local detention.
What a Murray County Criminal Record Shows
The fields depend on the record. A Murray County booking entry can show intake facts that never become filed charges. A court file can show amended counts and the final result. GCIC may include identifiers, an arrest cycle, a reported disposition, and Georgia correctional data. Sensitive identifiers, juvenile details, victim information, and sealed material may be withheld or redacted.
| Name & Identifiers | Name, date of birth, sex, race, physical descriptors, and agency identifiers, subject to redaction. |
|---|---|
| Arrest / Booking Data | Arresting agency, date, booking number, intake charges, bond, holds, and release status. |
| Charges & Statutes | Alleged or filed offense, code citation, charge class, and later amendments. |
| Disposition | Dismissal, nolle prosequi, acquittal, plea, verdict, or other final outcome. |
| Sentence | Custody, probation, fines, costs, restitution, and concurrent or consecutive terms. |
| Custody / Supervision Status | County detention, GDC location, release information, probation, parole, or revocation activity. |
Read each charge separately. “Closed” is only a status label and does not state whether the result was a conviction, dismissal, or acquittal.
Murray Court Login and Counter
The Georgia Judicial Gateway E-Access directory routes Murray Superior Court users to PeachCourt. PeachCourt requires registration and login before case searching. Its public landing page does not expose case-name fields, result limits, download tools, or prices. That gate makes the clerk counter important for older records, certified copies, and cases that cannot be confirmed online.
Contact the Murray County Clerk of Superior Court at 121 N. Third Ave., Chatsworth, GA 30705, or 706-695-2932. The counter is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Bring the exact name, approximate filing year, and case number if known. Ask whether the desired year is indexed electronically and what the current copy or certification charge will be.
The official E-Access directory is pictured here as the state routing layer.
It points toward participating systems, but the Murray County clerk still controls the local source file and certified disposition.
Public Access Laws for Murray County Criminal Records
The Georgia Open Records Act presumes agency records open unless a specific exemption applies. A Murray County request need not use special words, but it should identify the record with care. The agency must respond within three business days by producing the material or giving a timetable and cost when it cannot produce the record then. That response clock is not always a three-day production promise.
Key Statutes:
O.C.G.A. §50-18-70 presumes public records are open unless an exemption controls.
O.C.G.A. §50-18-71 sets inspection, electronic-record, copy, and charge procedures.
O.C.G.A. §50-18-72 lists exemptions for protected investigative and personal material.
O.C.G.A. §35-3-34(d.2) permits the public felony-conviction search with required identity data.
O.C.G.A. §35-3-37 governs record restriction, correction, and the court-sealing route.
Active investigations, juvenile information, victim details, and protected personal identifiers can be withheld or redacted. If an agency denies access, its response should identify the legal basis.
Murray County Warrant Record Channels
Murray County publishes no confirmed countywide warrant-search portal. Check the court that could have issued the warrant, then the sheriff and any filed case. Murray Magistrate Court handles warrant applications and early criminal functions at 812 G.I. Maddox Parkway, 706-695-3021. The Clerk of Superior Court is the next point for a filed felony case. Chatsworth and Eton courts must be contacted for their own bench warrants.
A bench warrant often follows a missed court duty. An arrest warrant rests on a probable-cause finding. A search warrant authorizes a search of a place or property and may be sealed while active. A person trying to resolve their own possible warrant should call the issuing court or counsel for instructions. Ask for the warrant or case number, issuing court, charge, issue date, status, and bond information.
Note: Payment or a phone call may not clear a warrant at once; confirm the updated status with the issuing court.
Murray County Record Restriction and Sealing
Georgia uses the term “record restriction.” Restriction limits eligible GCIC data from noncriminal-justice dissemination, but it does not destroy the source record. Criminal-justice agencies retain access. Common possible categories include release without prosecution, dismissal, nolle prosequi, no bill, or acquittal, subject to statutory exceptions. A conviction does not become eligible just because time has passed.
For arrests on or after July 1, 2013, the process generally starts with the prosecuting attorney. Older arrests generally start with the arresting agency and prosecutor. Court-record sealing is separate under O.C.G.A. §35-3-37(m), so a Murray County felony file may require a filing in Superior Court even after GCIC restriction. After either process, check the court index and review the GCIC history. A missing disposition should be fixed with a certified judgment and help from the source agency.
The GBI record-restriction resource supplied the following official process view.
It makes the key distinction visible: restricting a repository entry and sealing a Murray County court file are separate tasks.
Murray Criminal Record Terms
Short labels can hide major differences in a Murray County criminal case. These terms help separate an accusation from an outcome and a release condition from a sentence.
- Disposition
- The final outcome of a charge, such as dismissal, acquittal, plea, or verdict.
- Nolle prosequi
- A prosecutor’s formal decision not to continue a charge.
- Indictment
- A felony charging document returned by a grand jury.
- Recognizance
- Release based on a promise to appear rather than a cash deposit.
- Record restriction
- Georgia’s limit on eligible GCIC dissemination, not physical destruction of the record.
A booking charge is an intake claim. An indictment is a filed charge. A disposition is the court result. Those three points may not match word for word.
Murray County Treatment Court Records
The Conasauga Judicial Circuit operates named accountability courts that can add treatment, review, and compliance events to a Murray County criminal docket. Drug Court began in 2002, Domestic Violence Court in 2014, and Mental Health Court in 2018. Those entries do not mean the case disappeared. They show that the court used a structured program rather than only a standard custody path.
The official Treatment and Accountability Courts page is the source for the program history shown below.
When these program events appear, read the whole docket and final judgment before drawing a conclusion about the Murray County case.
Murray Criminal Records Beyond the Dome
The historic Murray County courthouse was built in 1916 and held its first court session in February 1917. The county describes it as one of only three domed courthouses in Georgia. Its history includes an unusual dispute in which county commissioners accepted jail for contempt rather than halt their building plan. The landmark still houses county offices, but it should not be treated as the address for every modern criminal-record counter.
Today, Murray County criminal records are spread across the Third Avenue clerk office, the Maddox Parkway Magistrate Court and detention area, city offices, and shared Conasauga Circuit services in Dalton. The county courthouse history provides the image and local account below.
The building explains the county’s court heritage, while the clerk’s published address remains the practical place to start a felony-record visit.

Criminal Records by City in Murray County
Murray County has only two incorporated municipalities. Chatsworth police reports and municipal cases begin with Chatsworth offices. Eton records use the city police, clerk, and municipal court channels. If either police department makes an arrest that leads to county detention or felony charges, the trail can continue to Murray County Jail and the Clerk of Superior Court.
